A new collection and other simple thoughts

It’s taken me more than half the year, but I’m finally ready to launch my newest collection.

I’ve been thinking a lot about bread (nothing new, I’m always thinking about carbs). My partner has been baking like a man possessed…testing, testing and retesting recipes, researching, reading, baking baking baking, and eventually handing off loaves in parking lots and driveways to friends.

The joy of gluten that he spreads is infectious. Humble ingredients, treated with respect and love, transformed into a gift that rises above a simple slice of bread. We know that people take it to their offices for lunch every day, create special meals around it, and savor those first bites. As they should….I mean….look at it.

I know I’m not baking artisanal bread, but I feel a parallel in my designs. I follow the same path…the idea, the testing, the trials, anxious peeking at resting work, and the eventual thrill (or despair) as the process comes to fruition.

This new collection is somewhat of a departure from my usual earthy tones. Maybe it’s a reflection of dark, anxious times, maybe a desire for color! joy! movement! Maybe it’s all of those things rolled into one. Sometimes design can just be fun for fun’s sake. Any way you slice it (see what I did there), these pieces fill me with joy, make me feel hope, and I hope they do the same for you.
